I didn't listen to  your advice about a proper puller and went ahead and
bought a F250 diesel quad cab with all the XLT has to offer.  Guess the
deciding factor was the optional electric seat for the wife so she could
ride  in comfort.  I was against the auto tranny, but the wife was so
frightened by my searching for the gears of the straight that I took the
best course.  Could have bought a lesser vehicle and several years younger,
but the price and the interest forced me into the more expensive new
vehicle.  Only 20 miles on the odometer and I really like the ride.  No
doubt that it will handle my 23 foot Safari!

Another deciding factor was your comment that the Dodge wasn't amenable to
chip changes to increase non-towing mileage.  Also, I talked to an owner
trading a 2000 supercab for a 2002 crewcab who told me that he got 18 mpg
with the same rear axle that I bought.  Sort of trust the owner more than
the dealership.

Now, I have to look into the exhaust brake and the new chip set to see if it
does indeed increase the mpg into the mid 20s.
