Re: [A/S] fridge frost even when off?

Susan,
It sounds like the fridge was actually turned 'on'.

It would help if you described your fridge. The really old ones have a
toggle switch under the box, behind a swing-down panel. It must be 'up'
to be 'off' and is supposed to be blocked from being switched Down to
'on' by the gas valve.

The later fridges have a Gas/Off/Electric selector inside the fridge
compartment, along with the thermostats and gas ignition buttons. If you
have that style, open the access cover on the outside so you can observe
how things operate while someone else moves that selector back and
forth. It's entirely possible that it's damaged or out of adjustment,
but it should be fairly obvious once you look at it to see how it
functions.

Whatever you do, DO NOT operate that fridge unless it's as level as you
can make it.
