actually, if everyone would go to my message where I quoted several 
paragraphs from Honda on their inverter-ators, you would see a diagram 
which shows that an alternator with a whole mess of fields is built right 
onto the engine. thus, the engine could probably idle at 300 rpm and 
generate a 60 cycle hum www.hondapowerequipment.com/eu2000.htm

It explains the inverter circuitry pretty well. just not technically. sigh
