[A/S] Re: Generator -- Alternator vs Magneto??

Magneto liting hasn't been around for half a century. All the 2 
strokes that come thru here have an ignition coil. (magneto) and a 
seperate liting coil. All lawn and garden with a charge circut use 
seperate coils.  I sent Yahmaha an E mail asking for a clarification 
of their term "invertor generator" but never recevied an answer. 
Typicaly a "generator produces DC voltage and an altenator produces 
AC voltage. A generator produces electrical power but an altenator 
does not. It must have a power source to work with such as the lead 
acid battery on board your car or in the case of some portable units 
a few capacitors act as a storage means. If capacitor type altenators 
sit too long between uses they may lose there "charge" and refuse to 
work. In that case they can be "shocked by another unit or  a 
battery, etc. Years ago I used to have to take my 500 amp portable 
welder up to the railroad yards each spring and give their unit 
a "shock" It would lose it's capacitor charge over the winter. If 
they had gone out a couple times during the off season and started it 
all would have been OK. If anyone else has knows what Yamaha is 
saying, I and others would like to know. Also is their an advantage 
to their system?   Arnie
