[A/S] "jenny" speed vs noise

A  few years ago my nabor dumped his JD tiller off the back of his 
truck. He gave it to me. The tiller was junk but I saved the 5 HP 
Briggs engine. I mounted it and an altenator from a 75 Chev pickup to 
a frame along with an amp gauge. The motor has a four " pulley and 
the altenator has it's original. That works out to a two to one 
increase in speed. When the engine is turning 1200 RPM the altenator 
is turning 2400. At that speed it puts out about 20 amps and will run 
a bit better than 4 hrs. on a tank of fuel. It works just great. I 
not only use it for boondocking but can take it out in a fiels and 
charge the batterys on a stalled tractor etc. BUT most interesting is 
the fact that evan with with out a cover or noise deading material 
like the "factory" built units, it is not very loud., I have a 
Coleman Power Mate 1800 watts. Nice unit but it turns 3600 RPM to 
produce 110 volts or to charge batterys at about 14 amps. That is 
three times as fast as the "homemade" rig. It uses more fuel and 
makes more noise, and because it turns faster it certainly will wear 
out faster. The down side to my "homemade" unit is weight. I can 
carry the Coleman around in one hand like a suit case, but not the 
other. I going to build another using an altenator from a Geo Metro. 
(very small) and a smaller engine and alum framing.  Some time ago I 
read about a commercially built jenny that only turned 1800 RPM to 
get it's work done. I have never been able to find that article
