[A/S] Spindle slop question

I've owned my '79 International for several months now.  When heading 
home Labor Day weekend I heard an unpleasant noise from one of the 
wheels.  Turned out that the noise was a broken spring which goes 
beneath the brake adjuster.  Easy enough to replace.

Since everything was apart I decided to repack the bearings, replace 
the grease seals and sync up brake adjustment on all four wheels.  I 
have no idea when that was done last, so it seemed like a good idea.

I put the first one back together earlier this evening and I have a 
question regarding how tight the spindle nut should be.  The service 
manual says to turn it with a 12" wrench until snug and then back off 
to the next notch on the castle nut.

In my situation, when I back off to that point, there is a little 
slop in the brake drum.  You can push and pull in and out on it and 
hear some movement, although it's barely visible.  I want to know if 
that is too loose.  In order to have no slop at all, I have to 
tighten half a notch beyond the "snug" point, and that seems too 
tight.

I'd like to clear this up before doing the other three wheels, and I 
won't move the trailer until that is done, so no risk of damaging 
anything.

Don't wory, I'll do a thorough road test when the job is done, as 
well as recalibrate my brake controller.

P.S.  Although off topic, while enjoying a nice weekend in the 
trailer, a guy several sites down from us had a '65 Caravelle which 
was cool to see, but a little cramped for our taste.
