Hi Joe and Carol and Fritz!

I broke down and bought the Magellan Roadmate 700 before heading out 
this summer because it has all the software preloaded in it. I use a 
Mac Powerbook and most of the GPS require a PC to download maps. It 
ended up being the smartest $$$ I've spent in a long time!!! It 
attaches to the air vent above the radio and worked flawlessly! 
Traveling alone means I don't have a map reader to tell me last minute 
directions when hitting a major city with route diversions around them. 
The Roadmate displays color maps of where you are, what's coming up, a 
continuing travel log of how many miles before next turn, hours  and 
miles to destination and a list of all the routes till you get there. 
You can pick shortest route, most or least use of major highways, etc. 
Best of all, it talks to you so that you don't have to divert your eyes 
to see the map! I used it all summer on the road and it really came in 
handy when I was at a campground looking for directions to an address 
in the area. (like finding a vet. for the dogs!) Great investment that 
I can use in any vehicle.
