RE: [A/S] Tow 34' wide body with 6 liter GMC

Rich,
I have towed my 34' Limited WB FK through 44 of the lower 48 states,
Alaska, and 5 Canadian Provinces with a 2000 GMC 2500 Sierra 2WD Short
Box Extended Cab and 4:10 Rear with the 6 L gas engine. The truck is
rated to tow 11,200 LBS. My trailer will go about 10,000, loaded for
extended travel, I would guess. I have no complaints with this setup as
for as towing down the highways. I have found I can maintain 55 MPH just
about any place I have towed. I usually tow at 65 to 70 MPH on the
Interstate highways, and 55 to 60 MPH on major highways. I get between 9
and 10 MPG towing, and 15 and 18 MPG solo. I averaged 9.997 MPG for a
14,600 mile trip to Alaska last summer. I plan on replacing the truck in
the spring with a new GMC Sierra 2400 HD Crew Cab Short Box 4X4 with the
DuraMax / Allison combination. I am replacing the truck in order to get
4 doors (Mine is the 3 door version), and 4X4 (I had to get towed out of
one camp site in Alaska, and almost did not get through Yellowstone NP
about a month ago because of snow). I am really having to struggle with
the decision to go with the diesel engine, sense I have never had a
diesel. I don't like the noise or the smell of diesel, but most people
claime it to be the best engine for towing. I put 99% of the miles on
the truck while towing. I also don't know if one can get diesel fuel on
the back roads of America like you can gas. Would some of you "Diesel
People" out there say some kind words that will make me feel "Worm and
Fuzzy" about the change to diesel please!!!!
