[A/S] Airstream Classic Motorhome Questions
I am in the process of purchaseing a Classic Airstream Motorhome. It
was advertised as a 1984 345. I put a deposit on it and am making
travel arraingements to personally inspect it.
From the photos, I notice some differences from other 1983, 1984 and
later coaches I have seen. While it is a rear bedroom, it does not
have the wrap around glass in back like other 1984 and later coaches
I have looked at. Instead, it has a single back window. It has a
blue stripe. Most MHs I've seen have the fake wood stripe. I
have only seen a blue strip and a single rear window on a 1981 28
foot rear bath excella MH advertised on the web. Also, it does not
have "limited" on the front grill.
Does anyone have knowledge of 1980's Airstream motorhome models?
Specifically, in what year was the 345 introduced?
When was the curved rear glass introduced? Was it an option over
several years?
Is there any significance to the color of the strip, Blue, Brown fake
wood, mauve?
Was there a "Limited" model and if so what was the difference?
Also, can any current or past Classic AS MH owners share their
experiences that support or refute the quoted opinion about the AS
Classic MHs: "I have never know anyone who hasn't had continual
multipile problems. …. But future buyers beware. I think these
units take all the prizes as lemons and I suspect had a lot to do
with their discontinuance."? I found this in an ealier post.
Why would airstream motorhomes based on the Chevy p30 be any more
problem prone than other brands of the era? Are they all lemons?
