Re: [A/S] Brake Controlers

Gerald and other listees,

I was reading your interesting description of how the brake controllers
work.  I noted that you mentioned the brake light switch has an effect on
the controller with an element of time.  I didn't think that could be the
operation because I always thought the brake light switch was not a variable
type switch, but just off/on for the brake lights.

OR, am I to understand that there is a time element built into the brake
controller?

I have a tri-axle Airstream that has very, VERY sensitive brakes.  I use the
Tekonsha Voyager (I think).  When the trailer's brakes are cold, I use one
setting which is "almost off".  When the trailer's brakes heat up, I use a
more aggressive setting.  I wonder if any other listees are faced with the
same "brake heatup situation"?

I use different settings for different traffic situations as well.

When I am in stop and go local traffic where there is lots of  traffic
movement in and out in front of me, I set it pretty aggressive.  When I am
on the highway, I set it a bit more aggressive for panic stopping, etc.
(Sometimes, when I come to a stop at a toll booth or exit, I have to back
off because the brakes really grab).  If I am on wet pavement, I have to
back off substantially because the brakes will lock up if they are too
aggressive.  I don't think this is a good situation at all, by the way.  I
would like to remedy my problem prior to next year's trips.

First things first, I am having my brakes inspected by the local A/S dealer
and then I will determine my next step...which might be a better controller.

I will be most interested in any perspectives on my situation.

Thanks,
