The disc brakes were vacuum/hydraulic. the brakes were directly actuated by
a hydraulic system, that was "powered" by a vacuum system (like the "power
brake" booster system on cars of 20 years ago). All of this was
_controlled_ by an electric system, as I recall. No wonder the mechanics
couldn't understand it!
