My name is Don Hardman and I participated in the
list for several moths last year and found the information available was great.
I owned a 69 Airstream which my wife and I completely refurbished but sold it in
1994. I guess since that time we have wanted another Airstream and I have looked
at several over the past year or so. I have found a very good candidate to
purchase in a 1975 31' Sovereign, center bath rear bed set-up. The skin is in
good condition and the interior is acceptable as well. Basic refurbishing
inside and out will be required but the effort should produce a very nice rig.
AC and fridge are original and seem to be in good working condition at this
time. The frame looks sound with no apparent buckling.
The one area that concerns me is the trailer
brakes. According to the current owner who has owned the trailer for 5 years the
brakes are not connected and he has never used the brakes although he traveled
with the trailer several times a year. I personally would be very uncomfortable
without trailer brakes on a trailer of this size. My question is, what type
brakes did the 75 come equipped with and what might I be looking at to have the
brakes upgraded to an electric system. Any input would be appreciated as to
potential problems and estimated cost. Also, I would appreciate any other data
or information about the 1975 Airstream Sovereign that anyone might offer.
Thanks and I look forward to participating in the
forum.
