RE: [VAC] A new trailer

Dick,
We bought our A/S from a retired fireman who fixes them up and sells
them. Since we were going to title it in Florida, he didn't charge us the
sales tax. Florida did charge us the sales tax when we went to get the
license. We had a similar experience in Georgia. My car was titled in
Florida. It was up in Georgia and having mechanical problems so we decided
to change the title to Georgia (we live in both states) so we wouldn't have
to put all those extra miles on it taking it back to Florida. I originally
had leased the car. When I purchased the car at the end of the lease, I
never bothered to change the title in Florida. I just renewed the license
each year unconcerned that it said it was owned by the bank. I also didn't
pay attention that I never got the title in my name. I found all this out
when I wanted to get the Georgia license. After a lot of hassle, I got the
Florida title transferred to my name. I went to the courthouse and got the
license with no problem. However, 3 weeks later, I received a letter from
GA State Sales tax requesting that I pay the sales tax unless I could show
that I had already paid it to Florida. Of course, I never had so I had to
pay it to GA. I was amazed that they could track that but I guess it
amounts to a lot of money so it pays for them to be paying attention.
