Our trailer was secured with a hasp and my husband didn't like the fact that someone 
could stick a pin on the outside while we were sleeping so he took the handle off and 
took it to a hardware store and they made a key to the lock for him.  Now the lock in 
the handle works and we have taken the hasp off.  The idea of a noisy alarm will work 
to scare people off too.
