I think you answered your own question.  If you secure the door too well the
folks that steal stuff will either go through a window or do some real
damage to the door.  If you can't find a secure site you might try setting
up some type of motion sensor hooked on to a extremely loud alarm inside the
trailer.  The neighbors may not call the police, but if the noise is
intolerable they may leave without your stuff.
