That driver set "provides an option to install COM Port Emulation Drivers 
for use with the USB Earthmate GPS receiver ".

May be what you need. Typically, this kind of emulation provides a 
"software interconnection" between a device on a USB port and software that 
expects to find it on a COM port. Delorme claims the Earthmate is true 
NMEA-compliant, so it should work with generic software once you provide 
the proper "interconnections".
