Hard to tell from the picture just what supports the spare tire.  Avion did 
offer an optional Continental spare tire carrier which is shown in the 
following picture from one of their ads..........



It is hard to tell just where the carrier is supported in this picture as 
well, but I suspect that the weight is carried by the frame, rather than the 
bumper.
