[A/S] Rear Bumper load

Back when the gas shortage (availability) was a problem (1978), I added two "jerry
cans" to my rig, a 22' Land Yacht, single axle. These were mounted on the rear
bumper and added about 70 lbs. This was almost a serious mistake, since it
changed the balance of the trailer and hitch load. I had one (ONLY ONE) attempt
to pull on to the freeway which produced such bucking and swaying that my heart
was in my mouth. Needless to say, the gas cans immediately were removed and put
in the trunk of the tow car (a big Mercury sedan) and we had a much more stable
and serene journey. Lesson learned without catastrophe!
