Re: [A/S] Re: Fridge unlevel: how long is ok?
Part of the confusion stems from the age of the refrigerators. All
absorption refrigs are not built the same. Older refrigerators which are
distinguished by a square enclosure around the chimney above the burner,
are much more sensitive to level. Dometic provided a level with each of
the refrigs and required the level to be within the inner ring for best
operation.
When they redesigned them back in the, I want to guess 80's they changed
the chimney to a round style. While the shape is not the reason it
allows for easier identification. Round chimney refrigs are much more
tolerate of off level operation. The owners manual for them only
specifies that the coach be level enough for "comfortable living"
Any refrig is not bothered while operating while on the road is because
it is in constantly changing position. The basic problem with off level
operation is that it allows hot spots to form and create bubbles in the
coolant which in turn stop the flow of the coolant.
Hope this helps more than confuses.
