I have done what you are thinking of in my 1070 unit.
I found a place in the roof I could mount the new Bat wing antenna.
I ran the coax down the refrig vent to the table with the TV.
I did have trouble with the new Bat Wing when a big truck met me on a 
windy day.. It bent the wing over so I had to come up with a new idea.  
This time i bought a little round antenna that sits about a foot off 
the roof.  It is not as good as the bat wing but it works for most 
local TV watching that I want.  I do not have to rase or turn the round 
antenna..  It works equally bad in all directions...
