Charlie,

Like my Argosy, the older Braund antenna's have a mushy feel to them. 
Once I replaced the gearset it worked ok but as you said somewhat vague.
These ease of changing from the Braund to the Winegard depends on 
whether you have 300 ohm flat lead or coax for the antenna lead in. All 
the Winegard's come with coax. Your coach "should be:" wired with flat 
lead. It is not possible to easily rewire the coach so the typical fix 
involves adding 300 to 75 ohm transformers both at the antenna and the 
in the wall.
In the process of changing the antenna it is best to open up the roof 
top entry point, pull up a length of good wire, attach the transformer, 
tuck it back in the roof and reseal it.
In will be necessary to change out the Braund wall amplifier with the 
Winegard power supply and thus you will need a second transformer in the 
wall.
One of the big pluses of the Braund is that since it is a true antenna 
it works with out turning on the wall amplifier where as the Winegard 
relies on the in wall power supply to drive the amplifier in the antenna 
head. For a dry camper, every little bit of power saved is a good thing.
