I do not agree with your first sentence.  Timken's site specifies the 
allowable amount of end play or free movement of the tire and wheel 
assembly along the spindle axis, and it DOES NOT start at "NONE".  "None" 
means the bearing is too tight.

There will be, and should be a SMALL amount of slop in a properly adjusted 
wheel bearing.  

The original poster should check Timken's site for the right way to do 
things and do not depend on which forum poster sounds more emphatic.
