45 pounds of water, so probably around 50-60 total. I welded a homemade 
mount to the rear bumper of my first airstream (a '68 26 footer) so I could 
take a couple of bicycles along. Full size adult bikes. Never a problem in 
thousands of miles of travel.  Construction probably has changed over the 
years - they may be weaker now.

But I don't get the picture - are the rocks inside with the laundry, or on 
top holding the lids down?
