Re: [A/S] Blinds and curtains: Keep open or closed?
The amount of winter sunshine on the wetter side of Washington is
minimal...And I don't think that it would be enough to discourage mildew and
such in a closed up trailer...To combat the mildew, mold and musty smell, I
do the following:
1. leave a leeward window open with a 2x2 between window and screen (net a
1" opening at the bottom)
2. run a small 12" box fan on lowest setting on the opposite end of the
trailer (from the open window)
3. the fantastic fan vent is open just far enough to start the motor on a
75 degree setting (the rain won't splatter/blow in)...the ff is in the
center of the trailer
4. leave a oil filled radiator on low/minimum thermostat setting
This keeps the trailer dry and fresh and at about 50 degrees inside...In
three winters, I have not had problems with bad smells the above mentioned
3-Ms. I leave bedding and towels in the trailer and they are fine in the
spring! And I have a nose that is extra sensitive to the 3-Ms!
The sun-bleaching seems to happen (even here) whether the blinds are open or
closed...And things need to be updated periodically anyway...Good reason to
make a change!
