  Although some panels apparently make "some" electricity when it's gray 
and rainy, I can tell you that mine don't make much of anything under 
those conditions.

If you must use a generator, I'd highly recommend that you first install 
an InteliPower converter, or equivilant 3-stage battery charger. This 
will get your battery fully charged initially, which the UniVolt 
probably won't, and it'll charge, and charge quickly when powered with a 
genset. Again, that's something that won't happen with the UniVolt. You 
should be able to get by with maybe a couple or 3 hours/day of generator 
time to keep your batteries up. Most standard converters, bad as they 
are at battery charging from the power line, are even worse when fed 
from a generator.
