Dan, I agree with Daisy -- a sander can eat your paneling and cabinetry
alive if it's a belt sander even with 120 grit. I found out the hard way.
What did work out nicely for me was using one of the little triangle detail
sanders. They took off the old finish (probably the Watco oil finish
mentioned earlier) and just the right amount of veneer, i.e.. almost none.
Well worth the $20 or so I invested in the little sander.
