Re: [A/S] '69 heater sputter

As the group has made quite clear, the gas valve in that furnace is BAD. It is not
shutting completely off. Not good. You will likely be forced to replace the whole
furnace. The gas valve used in that old beastie was a single stage valve. Replacements
are no longer made. The industries has gone to dual stage valves that are bigger.
Suburban will not support their furnaces beyond a given age due to unpredictable
deterioration of components, principally the burner chamber. Not that they didn't
build it well, they just can't control how it is used. Furnaces of the 70's with pilot
lights are not fully supported anymore. Only were the components are common to a newer
model can you get parts for an older unit.
I also strongly recommend that anyone using a pilot model furnace to install a carbon
monoxide detector in their coach.
