I tend to think that $506 for a door latch would seem unreasonable to just
about anyone who didn't have a vested interest in selling one.  Several
people have suggested other alternatives that I might attempt before I
replace the latch, and I appreciate their advice. If  I have to, I'll
replace the latch, but I'll still believe it's unreasonable regardless of
the history of its manufacture.
