Mary - sorry to hear about the overlander; and good luck with the GT - i
full-timed in a '65 GlobeTrotter for about four years - I think it was one
of the best Airstreams ever built.
I'm going to install the Coleman roof air unit under one side of the 'cafe'
seating up front, and an Onan propane powered generator under the other.
Because of the required venting, plumbing, sound-dampening, etc., i'd be
reluctant to do this if it weren't for the fact that this is a ground-up
restor/renovation... I was inspired by Roy Lashway's interior-mounted
heat-pump unit, which is shown on his website:

I already had the a/c (i took it off my SOB rv), and the shell of a '48
Trailwind wouldn't support an a/c very well without some additional support.

I'm completely sold on the FanTastic Vent, however... I mounted a second one
in the rv last week, and spent the past two days at Lahontan Reservoir in
the Nevada Great Basin... more brutal desert heat (high 90's, low 100's) and
my cat (Dr. Katz) was quite comfortable. We don't miss the a/c at all.

ps: a 2000 watt generator might not have the cranking power needed to start
up an rv airconditioner... 3000-4000 is more like it. Also, the less
expensive generators one sees on sale at home centers are WAY too loud for
neighborly camping...
