[A/S] Safari Spare

Joy,

I'm not a good choice of a person to ask about elaborate new, expensive
spare wheels, tires, and racks. I have not had a flat tire in so many years
I cannot remember having one. I have had a couple of nail punctures over
the years but have always driven the car or truck to a tire repair shop, or
in the case of the big A/S, removed the tire before it deflated, took it to
a shop for repair, and was on my way. I haven't used a spare tire in
probably 20 years, maybe 30.

My big A/S has a spare tire in the underbelly mount. When I travel with the
vintage or the one I will pick up this weekend I'll just throw a spare wheel
with an old well worn spare abandoned by Melissa in the back of my truck,
just in case. If I didn't have that one, I wouldn't buy a spare wheel and
tire. An aerosol can of flat repair would suffice.

Having made that lengthy speech, since you don't have the luxury of tossing
an additional dirty and heavy tire wheel combo in the back of your van and
you are already expert at vintage A/S repair, it might not be a bad
investment to buy and install the spare tire rack from Tad @ Healthy Homes.
You may lean toward caution more than I do.

You might also try http://www.colawrvsalvage.com. It is a big RV salvage
yard near Carthage, MO. I'm going to visit and look around on my return
trip from the CBR.

I've seen old photos of A/S on WB caravans with spare tires mounted between
the gas bottles and the front of the trailer. It wouldn't hurt to try it to
see if it will fit but since you already have the cavity under your Safari,
my preference would be to put a rack on and put it out of sight.

I'll be off list for a few days. Keep up the good work.

Harvey
