Thanks Gregory Paulsen for the response.  The old cutout already has a
substantial stiffener on both sides and across the top.  Your description of
the stiffener for the new edge is exactly what I needed.

Are buck rivets pretty easy to install and clinch the two aluminum sheets
tight enough to maintain a seal.  Does it take special tools?  The $175 for
the drill attachment to polish the Olympia rivets seems like a pretty high
cost.  If the tools for the buck rivets area much less costly, they are the
ticket.

Do you have any information about sources for the maleable aluminum or maybe
the type of alloy?
