The normal recommendation is to not run a converter without batteries. A
converter is not built with a load bank. It relies on the batteries for a
stable load. This stable load smoothes or filters the output to a more even DC
voltage. Without this smoothing or filtering the converter output is very
ragged and will cause damage to other 12V appliances such as furnace motors
and circuit cards. You will also often hear a hum in the coach radio speakers.
This is evidence of the noise the converter is making without the filtering
effect of the battery. Continued use of the converter without batteries will
lead to premature failure of the converter as well.
