[A/S] Equalizing Hitches

I made an interesting trip yesterday.
With all the insistence that an equalizing hitch is necessary when 
towing an Airstream, I went to the big local trailer and hitch store. 
I told them what I towed (5500 lb)  and, what I towed with.  He 
looked at my truck and hitch and said the hitch was OK for the load, 
did I have a problem with handling. I told them "no I didn't
feel  any loss of control" to which he asked me why I wanted an
equalizing hitch. I answered "Because I have been told over and
over that Ineed one to tow my trailer and I have no expereance with 
the equalizer so I had no way to compair what it may do for me".
The fellow told me that if the truck was not loosing control and 
wandering on the road then he saw no reason to get one. This place 
has been in business for about 50 years.
