in my experience, a numerically HIGHER final drive number relates to
more torque available to do the work, by virtue of torque multiplication.
GM factory numbers for towing capacity (2000 model year) indicate
identical cap.s for 2wd & 4wd models with same axle ratio. (Pickups)
the 4wd pickup is available with a 4.10:1 ratio, which increases the
cap. by almost 10% over the 3.73:1 ratio ( best 2wd number avail. )
I beleive the number for a 1500 series w/4.10 axles is 9300 lbs!!!
Unfortunately, I don't have the numbers for Suburban/Yukons, but they
are now based on the same engine/trans/running gear as the pickups.
