	I've got to *strongly* disagree with this- yes, a battery charger *can* be
used in an emergency, but it does not replace the Univolt.

	The Univolt is still (IMHO) the most bullet proof converter out there.
Yes, it is loud (that is in the design), but it will take anything between
100 v.a.c., and 140 v.a.c., and output 13.6 v.d.c (m.o.l.- depending on the
model) - with *no* discreet electronic components.

	The newer, electronic converters will do a better job of charging the
battery, and are completely silent (actually, they hum at 10,000 hz.,
rather than 60hz.- makes it easier to dampen the noise), but I bet that
they will not last 20 some years.

	To get a battery charger that will come close to replacing the Univolt,
you will be spending in the $3-400 range... but, a good, quiet converter
that I like is the Progressive Dynamics PD9145 or 9155- with the "charge
wizard". Good battery charging, and silent operation.
