 A middle-road between wire brush and angle-grinder: a flexible sanding disk
('feathering disk') with 80-grit sanding disks - adhesive or
screw-and-washer type - much more control, and easier to master (mistress?).
i find this method much easier to get to bare metal without actually
*removing* bare metal. when using adhesive-backed sanding disks, i pick up a
small aerosol can of spray adhesive to augment the generally inadequate
adhesive on the disks.
