[VAC] Re: Spare tire

I've grown to dislike the out of site under the truck spare tire
storage. The old ones were a real pain to get the tire out from,
sometimes conflicted with the frame mounted hitch, and the new crank
downs are really easy to have the tire stolen. So I keep my truck spare
under the topper held at the side of the bed with a bracket from one of
the step companies. Mine was made in Story City, Iowa, but that company
has been bought out by DeeZee and the product has probably disappeared.
Last trip, I used a bungee cord to hold the trailer spare against the
truck spare. I need to modify another of those spare tire mounts to hold
the trailer spare on the other side of the truck bed. My dad took the
front spare tire mount off the Caravel and mounted the battery in its
place figuring that having the battery outside was far more healthy for
the Caravel and that the spare tire could always travel in the truck.
