[VAC] Re: Spare tire

First learn the tongue weight of the trailer (go to a truck stop with
truck scales and weight trailer/tow together then weigh trailer
independently. Difference will give you a tongue weight. Trailer tongue
weight should be 10 to 15% of trailer weight. A spare tire weighs
probably less then 50 lbs so it is not a big deal. I hung the spare on
my "56 Bubble on the rear and was motivated more for the appearance as I
think the back of the trailer was not particularly attractivel. I also
had a more tongue weight then was desirable because the front frame had
been doubled by original owner to support a large generator. I had to
strengthen the rear bumper by welding on some iron. Then welded on the
the carrier bracket which can also be tilted down. Got it from JC
Whitney. Also purchase a contenental tire kit to cover tire. All told
it cost probably $250 bucks but I got so much into this "toy" already
whats a little bit more. I suspect with every thing I added 80-90 lbs
to rear end which is about what I needed. And I like the looks.
