Looking at the plumbing diagrams in my '68 owner's manual, the water
pipe drains are mid rear. There is a drain by the water tank, and there
has to be a drain from the pressure & temperature relief valve on the
water heater. Might one of Nick's holes be for a condensate drain from
the optional roof mounted AC? Looks like the bathroom sink vent is in
front of the water heater. Maybe one of the holes is to allow installing
the vent after assembling interior or a vent drain not shown on the
drawing..
