Julie - paint stripper should remove the clear coat -
just go to one of the home stores in your area (or
local hardware store) and buy whatever you're
comfortable with... 

there are citrus based eco-friendly strippers - more
expensive and less effective

there are super cheap, highly toxic versions too - 

they all work, so, just pick the one you're
comfortable with.

The MISSOURI on the side would connote that the
trailer was once in the WBCCI (to me) since there are
members who'll mark their trailer with the name of
their home state when traveling on caravans, to the
international etc... it happens more often on the 70's
trailers since they've got that wide stripe down the
side...
