Re: [VAC] North to Alaska -

Hi Sherry,

In reply to your request for ideas:
Contact any WBCCI Caravan Leader who has
taken or is going to take a caravan to Alaska.
Ask for the handout on preparing your vehicles.

Then, do the easy things at home, but know
how to do the heavy duty stuff when you get
there. At Tubby's CG in Dawson Creek, go thru
the car/trailer wash ($10+), then buy the wood
and headlight protectors at K-Mart, build the
framework and install the plywood to protect
the entire front area of your Bambi.

If you think this two day project is overkill
and ignore it before covering another 4,000
miles in Alaska, your Bambi may end up with
a permanent and severe case of the measles
across the entire front portion. Plus, your
good stone shield may be ruined and there
is a good chance of a broken front window.

The detour section of roads under repair are
covered with very sharp pieces of gravel.
Some detours are half an hour long and the
big trucks coming at you in the opposite
direction stir up pieces of gravel and clouds
of dust that gets into EVERYTHING.

Likewise, protect windows on the street
side with clear plastic knobby rug runner
carpet or you'll be scrounging for window
replacements and settling for Mickey Mouse
fixes at double or triple premium prices.

There are numerous little things to do before
you leave. Do them all. You are going too many
miles, for too long, spending too much money,
having too good a time, and too far from home,
to spoil it by being minimally prepared or
heaven forbid, too macho for your own good.
