Re: [VAC] Propane Regulator

Mike,
That hissing might well be normal, I've noticed something similar. In
my case, I'm sure that flipping the selector causes gas to pressurize
the 'other' side momentarily.

However, here's how you check it out: mix up some dishwashing soap and
water and brush it over all of the gas connections while the tanks are
open. If you have a leak, you'll find it very quickly; it's usually
obvious how to repair such problems. Often, simply tightening the
connection will do the job. If the regulator itself is bad, you can get
a replacement regulator/switcher from your local propane or RV dealer or
Camping World. Cost is about $30.00 and replacement is straightforward
as long as the mounting holes line up. They probably won't, so you'll
have to do some engineering, but that's fairly straightforward also.

When you replace the regulator, you might consider replacing the
tank-connection pigtails. Mine were originally steel lines, and there
was one of those flexible accordian lines from the regulator to the main
gas line. I replaced all 3 with hoses that I had my local propane dealer
make up in his shop. You can buy pigtails from Camping World that use
the new connections if you've had OPD valves installed on your tanks.
They're really nice because it takes just a couple of twists with your
bare hands to connect/disconnect the tanks, no wrenches, no remembering
that it's Lefty-Tighty, Righty-Loosey on those connections. (the new
connection is RH threads)
