I've had Dish for many years now and have an old dish
that I could take with me on trips.  We always felt
that we would just take one of the two home receivers
with us and not deal with calling Dish.

The issue though is the telephone connection.  Dish
began a program where they charge an extra $5 a month
if they don't hear from the receiver every x amount of
days.  I never asked what that frequency was but I do
remember that when I got my second receiver, I moved
the old one to a different room in the house.  I was
going to run a phone line but was slow in getting it
done.  Suddenly I got an extra $5 charge on my bill. 
Customer service told be it was because my receiver
had not been plugged in to a phone line.  I told them
the circumstances and they waved the charge but told
me to get the line in ASAP.

Personally I believe that while the dial in dumps the
pay per view information up to billing, the other
purpose is for them to verify that the receiver is
still at your residence.  They use inbound calling
number ID on their 800 service and a mismatch on
numbers when the reciver dials in would probably
trigger a follow up call from them to verify receiver
location.
