The first time I used my Earthmate GPS with my laptop was on the
way from Atlanta to Top O'Georgia Airstream Park. On the way up, with Jane
driving, I was startled to see the little trail of dots on the map moving
steadily across a field, parallel to the roadway but well off it. I expect
that may have been caused by loss of a satellite, or an error in the
electronic map.
I, therefore, tend to use paper maps. I do use MS S&T a lot, and
occasionally I use my DeLorme product. But, I have used my GPS only the
one time. I'm a map person, too.
But, be aware that paper maps also contain errors. I have often
been irritated by the difference between the ground and the maps,
especially in cities and at interchanges. Most are good, but you never know.
