Hi Christopher,

I did what you are proposing to my shower, in my 73, and found that 
there was practically no caulk there !  I used some fancy clear caulk 
and put a lot in and then wiped off the excess after riveting it back 
together. I also had to mend several cracks with JB Weld.  You may get 
cracks taking it appart if the plastic is brittle. Mine has been 
leakless so far after 1000 miles and daily showers.
