One thing that you should consider is putting two Trojan 6 volt
batteries in place of the two 12 volt marine style batteries. You will
still get 12 volts if you connect them properly but the 6 volts are
constructed differently and will last about 3 time the length of the
12 volts. Your 12 volts will fry every 3 or 4 years and the 6 volts
will last past 10 years if a good charge is maintained.
Yes you can run on just one 12 volt for a couple of hours and then you
are dead in the water unless you have solar panels or a generator.
I have two Trojan t-145 6 volts but had to build my own box. I think
the Trojan t-125 will fit the boxes that you have but I'm not sure.
You should go to the website http://www.trojan-battery.com/ and check
the demension of your battery boxes.
