You asked how would a person know if the system is dry?
  Maybe not 100%, but after I've opened all faucets, and drains ( cold and hot water 
line drains ) & pushed about 80 - 90 #s of air through them until ther is no  water 
coming out anywhere, I'm presuming I've removed all water. Could be wrong. The only 
place I can't drain is from the pump to the tee at the city water line. But I can 
disconnect that at the pump and that line will drain down. If this all works as planned, 
then I don't see the need to put in a-f. Like I say I understand there are parts of the 
country where the temps get extreme enough that I probably would rethink my strategy.
  I'm in the Dallas area and it is seldom that it gets below freezing for an extended 
period of time.It can and it has but not often. I have left the heat as low as it will 
go just in case.
