Tricia and Conrad,

As a retired cabinetmaker with an engineering background, I offer the
following comments in the hope that they may be of some value to you.

The trick with venting is to ensure that there is adequate air flow, and
that the hot air does not get trapped, thus preventing cooler air from
replacing the hot air.

Since heat rises (as does hot air) you need adequate open access to the
fresh (cool) air at the bottom of the enclosure, and an exhaust at the top.
The space doesn't have to be huge, but it must allow sufficient airflow to
remove the heat.  If the exhaust is lower than the top of the enclosure,
heat will become trapped.  Fans, in my opinion, are not a great solution,
since they are working against the laws of physics, especially since it
usually isn't that difficult to design the enclosure for adequate air
circulation.
