Hi Dan,
The '01 had problems with injectors sticking which would cause 
the crank case to fill with desiel fuel and they had probems with 
EGR. These problems were resolved by '03 but I wouldn't hesitate 
to buy an '01 if it was a good deal. It has the locking rear 
differential.
