RE: [A/S] Some 110 volt outlets work, some don't - Quality - some are better than others

If you have bad (malfunctioning ) duplex electrical outlets, you might want
to replace them with high quality ones (which will likely last the life of
your Airstream.

These are called "Specification Grade" or "Spec Grade" and this designation
is embossed on the receptacle, typically on the metal portion. Spec grade
outlets (and switches) cost more (typically $2.50 instead of 65 cents) but
are far superior. They are typically used in commercial and industrial
applications.

You will have a hard time buying them in a typical home center (Home Depot
or Loews). Instead, you will most likely have to go to a commercial
electrical supply house to purchase them.

If you put a spec grade one next to a standard household grade version, you
will immediately see the heavier (and better quality plastic) and sturdier
construction. However, the big difference is inside. In the case of the
duplex receptacle, the metal springs are a lot stronger and made of a
superior beryllium copper alloy. These springs make much better electrical
contact with the prongs of the plug, and maintain their grip over a much
longer lifespan (and will withstand far more insertions and removal of
plugs).

Likewise, the contacts in a spec grade switch are superior and have a much
longer life.

In my opinion, well worth the additional cost.
